Snapping a quick selfie of me with the computer screen in the background, I send it back without a description.

“Is that to Arik? Is he texting you right now?”

“Of course he is, Taylor, look at that smile. I haven’t seen her smile like that since she hit that record with push-ups last year.”

“Did you tell them about the pictures thing?” Ally asks.

Ignoring the buzz of my phone, I’m animated as I tell the girls about Jackson and Connor tripping over each other, the pictures, and the chase around the yard.

When I finish the story, Liv’s looking at me with a weird expression.

“What? What’d I say?”

There’s a glimpse of heartbreak in her eyes, something I recognize, but I don’t understand why.

“It’s nothing, babe. You’re so happy and I’m happy for you. I love that this has been easier for you than you thought.”

“But…”

“But nothing, it’s a good look on you.”

I let the subject drop and make a mental note to talk to her later. Taylor and Ally both jump in, filling the lull in conversation with commentary on the pictures of Jackson and Connor that I couldn’t help but share with them. Glancing down, I read the message waiting on my phone.

Looks like y’all are having a good time. When do I get some of that?
